Consumer Unit Upgrades

Is your consumer unit in need of upgrading?

If your consumer unit is outdated and in need of modernization, we can help. Consumer units that are outdated present a safety risk along with being inconvenient. Usually if your consumer unit contains ‘pull out’ rewireable fuses this means it should be upgraded. This is not only for safety reasons, as modern CU’s are much more efficient in detecting faults and tripping fast enough to protect against electric shock, but for functional reasons. Why spend the time tracking down new fuse wire and taking the fuse apart to rewire it, for it to only blow again if there is an issue? A modern consumer unit will trip in fault conditions requiring it to just be reset via a switch, providing there is no reoccurring fault.

Other reasons consumer units may need to be upgraded include; no RCD protection on existing circuits, increasing the fire resistance with a new metal consumer unit rather than an older plastic one, and simply increasing capacity in the case of adding new circuits for a home improvement or renovation.
